Facts & Fallacies about Hypnosis

Much of popular media and literature have inaccurately portrayed hypnosis. Let's clear up a few of these misperceptions.

A hypnotized person does not fall under the spell of the hypnotist. They can not be controlled or compelled. One would never do something under hypnosis contrary to their morals, religion, or self-preservation.

Hypnosis does not make one reveal secrets. It is not used as a lie detector, although it can be used to enhance memory.

Anyone can be hypnotized if they wish to do so.

There is no way a hypnotized person can get "stuck" in a hypnotic state and not wake up.

Susceptibility to hypnosis has no correlation to intelligence level.
